Hurt people hurt people. This the black community in a nutshell. The world in a nutshell.
Is it on black people to teach white people to be better? Most people would say no, but if white people are ignorant to the issue at hand, or are so isolated they don't see it or are so busy defending their sense of self that they're not listening, then who's going to do it? I don't know who, if it's not black people.
I understand why it should be on black men to fix this issue, but unfortunately the word "should" means nothing in the face of reality. I think everyone who is aware of these issues has to do their part to fix them.
I totally agree that black men need to be more proactive in calling out other black men about issues of sexism. We need more black men aware of the evils of this to make this happen. So we need more education around these topics and more understanding. And in my experience, both black men and black women have poor understanding of the way sexism damages the community because both are so focused on accusations and pointing fingers at the other side. I don't have any answers and am just thinking out loud, but it's sad that black people, not just men,not just women, can't see the bigger picture of this dangerous divide and both sides work towards better. I tend to think if there's an issue, you try to fix it. But I totally understand why the onus is placed on black men by many.
Ultimately, it's all white supremacy fault though lmao 😂 and we dealing with the symptoms. If so many black people weren't in survival mode because of lacking resources and brainwashed by white supremacist relationship ideals, I don't think we'd have so many issues between our men and women.
